A Note from Lt. Drew

On 5/7/2008 at approximately 2:10 am, Officer Bryan Smith observed a male attempting to break into the business located at 11 W. Broad.  The suspect ran from the Officer and was apprehended 4 blocks away by RPD with the assistance of a citizen who actually followed the suspect in his truck.  The citizen advised that he saw this same suspect park a car earlier on Grace Street.  The investigation revealed that the car had been stolen from the 600 Block of Franklin Street on May 4th.  Patrick Roberts was charged with attempted burglary and auto theft and confessed to both crimes.  Mr. Roberts also had warrant on file for another grand larceny.  The Officers and citizen did an amazing job!!  We are working hard to keep crime down in Sector 413.  In the beginning of the year we saw an increase in Burglaries – both commercial and residential – hopefully this arrest will help keep them down.

Lt. Police, Lisa Drew
